2012: Running

2012 brought a whole new adventure in running. I went from not being able to run at all in January, to completing my first full marathon in September. A few injuries along the way, but a great running year.

Total miles ran: 915

Total races: 10

Awards won: 2

DSCN4936Run 4 Home. Second in age group

Oshkosh 5k.

Fox Firecracker 5k. 5k PR

Packers 5k. Ran with my sister.

Festival Foods Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving

Bellin Run

Noodleini 15k

Cellcom Half-Marathon

Cheesehead Half-Marathon. 2nd in age group

Fox Cities Marathon.

The majority of my races this year were ran in the summer and this summer in Wisconsin was HOT! It seemed like every time I had a race it was ridiculously hot. I did a lot of my training in the afternoon after work, which I think helped in these races because it was obviously hotter in the afternoon. Most of my runs took place on the Fox River Trail, either near my house or in DePere. I also ran quite a bit on Saturday’s with my running group.

I had a great racing season in 2012 and I expect 2013 to bring even BIGGER races and accomplishments 😉

Festival Foods Turkey Trot Race Recap

I ran in the Festival Food Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day 2012 in Green Bay.

The Turkey Trot is sponsored by Festival Foods and is put in in multiple locations around Wisconsin (Appleton, Green Bay, LaCrosse, Eau Claire, Fond du Lac, Marshfield, Oshkosh, and Manitowoc). Last year I ran walked in the one in Menasha, which was changed to Appleton this year.

I signed up to run the 5 mile, along with Ryan, his sister and her husband. My sister did the 2 mile. We got to the race in plenty of time to walk to warm up, use the porta-potty and get to the start. It was quite warm that morning with just a little wind. I wore a long sleeve shirt, long sleeve zipper-up and pants and was rather warm. What started off as a really frustrating race ended very well. FORESHADOWING!!!

My time goal was 45 minutes. That seemed like a very reasonable time. We all started near the back of the pack and definitely paid for it the first mile or so. I had to dodge and come to a complete stop for walkers and dogs and kids. It was very frustrating. Ryan ran away and so did Trisha and Jesse. I caught up with Ryan eventually and passed him and then spotted Jesse and Trisha a little ways ahead.

About the halfway point I felt amazing. I really don’t know what happened but the people parted and I just couldn’t stop. I passed Trisha and Jesse and just ran and ran and going faster and faster. During these fast miles, I thought about what I was thankful for this year. My wonderful family, my amazing boyfriend, his family who has accepted me, going back to school, my health, and just overall happiness.

After running and running, the race was done and I finished in 43:46! Way faster than I anticipated! We regrouped and then headed home. I was very pleased with the results from this race. Another thing to be thankful for that day 🙂

Project 365: Day 174-Madison Trip

I went down to Madison on Saturday to visit my friend Tom! It was so much fun. We were able to catch up and he showed me all the exciting sights of the city.

This was the first time I’ve ever driven a really long distance by myself, so that was an adventure. My GPS decided it needed to take me through every little town in Wisconsin. But it was quite scenic.

June 23

I think this is Lake Winnebago, but don’t quote me.

June 23

Then I started going through these little towns and there were so many windmills!

June 23

More windmills

June 23

And more windmills!

We started our adventure by going to the Hilldale Mall, which has a FANTASTIC Target. I wish I would have taken a picture of that. It was awesome. We ate at the Great Dane and the food was super good. The weather was great and we ate outside.
After we ate there, we checked out the West Towne Mall and then headed downtown to State Street.

June 23

We checked out Lake Mendota

June 23

And drank our awesome smoothies from Jamba Juice

June 23

We walked up State Street and ventured up by the capitol

June 23

Bathroom break at the Overture Center

June 23

Meandered back to the lake. People watched. Many weddings were going on. And I sat in one of the BLUE CHAIRS!

After our second lake adventure, we got Gelato. Why have I not discovered this sooner?! It was amazing! I’m not sure which type of frozen dessert is my favorite now: ice cream, Gelato or frozen yogurt. More testing needs to be done 😛

It was a great day in Madison exploring the city with one of my closest friends. Nothing beats that 🙂

June 23

The drive home.

Project 365: Days 32-36

I can’t believe it’s already February?! It has been a crazy winter here in Wisconsin. The temperatures this weekend were in the 40s! No more snow here. And I’m certainly not complaining.

Here are the first couple days of February: Days 32-36

February 1

Here is my work. I help crabby customers and barely get paid.

February 1

I thought this was funny. It’s a little kids riding toy parked in the bike rake. Haha.

February 2

My awesome new workout shows! Don’t be blinded by my awesome white ankle skin.

February 2

This sign is at the DRIVE-THRU ATM! Not really sure there are many blind people driving.

February 3

Be Enchanted is the most wonderful fragrance from Bath and Body Works that I have purchased recently. I got the body wash from my grandma and told her I didn’t need any more lotion, just body wash. Well, after using this heavenly scent in the shower that morning, I rushed to Bath and Body and got some lotion. I just want to sit in a vat of this. Mmmm 🙂

February 4

I got up at the butt crack of dawn to work out before work. I only ever get up this early if the boyfriend and I are going to a zoo or somewhere far-ish away.

February 4

At least QVC is on 24/7 so I could watch them while working out.

February 5

The adventures in Slow Cooking continue this week! I have decided to only buy thin-sliced chicken breasts. They weren’t fatty and so easy to cut and put in the slow cooker. I used this recipe, only instead of pork I used chicken.

February 5

Finished lunch! I know you all are jealous of our TV trays.  I bought Ciabatta rolls from Walmart and they were great for the pulled chicken.

February 05

A somewhat blurry side view of my sandwich. Yummy 🙂

What are some of  your favorite fragrances from Bath and Body Works?

Do you have to get up early to get your work out in?

Thankfully, I can choose the hours I’m available, so I can’t be schedule before 10am usually. I picked up an extra shift at 9am, which is why I had to work out early.

Project 365: Days 17-20

It has been COLD here in Wisconsin these past few days! But, despite that, I’ve been having some pretty decent days. I have been using my camera phone for most of the pictures, because I have that with me all the time and I seem to remember to take pictures with it more often. I think this is the first phone I have taken a significant amount of pictures with, and I’ve had it for a year already!

Here are days 17-20!

January 17

What?! Flip-Flops in January! This is crazy.

January 17

This made my day! I had been wanting a slow cooker for a while now and I was going to buy one in February after taxes. So I went to the mall on Tuesday for some other things when I suddenly remembered I had a JCPenny gift card! And they have kitchen items there! I found my slow cooker for $25 and I still had $2 left on my card! I was the happiest girl leaving the mall that day 🙂

January 18

After getting the slow cooker the day before, I wanted to gather the recipes that I had been finding online. This is pretty much what I did after I got home from work.

January 19

This was at 7:30am and this was the high for the day. It was FREEZING!

January 20

Just an ordinary mail box at Tru-Value. But inside…

January 20

…there was a little dragon! I laughed out loud when I saw it.

Project 365- Days 5-6

My day-to-day life is not very exciting, so it’s challenging to get some interesting pictures. Hopefully as the year goes on, it gets a little easier 🙂

Here are days 5 and 6!

January 5th

This is Tabby, my tablet that I got for my birthday/Christmas. I use this for all my blog stalking, Facebook creeping, and Netflix watching. We were apart quite a bit during Christmas and New Years, but now we are best buds again.

January 6th

I took this photo this at 8:00am THIS MORNING! It’s almost 40 degrees outside in January! This has been a crazy Wisconsin winter. We have barely had any snow. All the snow from my picture on day one is now gone.

I will probably have more pictures on Monday! Happy weekend!
